The Secrets of Paper and Ink by Lindsay Harrel

I wasn't sure about this book for the first few chapters, but I kept reading and was drawn into a story I couldn't put down! This was my first book by Lindsay Harrel and i am looking forward to reading more books by her. The Secrets of Paper and Ink follows the story of two women in contemporary times and another in Victorian England. All three women are dealing with some difficult life events. I loved the way Ms. Harrel ties together the two timelines. She throws in a few plot twists to keep her readers guessing. She creates handsome gentlemen for her ladies. So grab a pot of tea (sorry Sophia) and enjoy a great read!
I was given a copy of this book by Celebrate Lit with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

Fighting to keep the first place she feels like she belongs, she brainstorms with her brother-in-law, William, and Sophia to try to keep the charming bookstore afloat.
More than 150 years before, governess Emily Fairfax knew two things for certain: she wanted to be a published author, and she was in love with her childhood best friend. Guest Post from Lindsay

With every book I write, it seems God has something new to teach me. That certainly was true of The Secrets of Paper and Ink.
Lately, I am learning more and more about the power of our words. I’ve become more conscious of the words I speak over myself as well as what I say to other people. It’s more than “positive thinking”—the words we say ultimately contribute to the stories we weave, and I want my story to be as positive and hope-filled as possible, regardless of my circumstances.
I’ve also become much more aware of the lies that I tell myself—“you are not worthy, you are not enough, you will never achieve what you want to achieve”—and the need to replace those lies with the truths that God says about me. I have listened to Lauren Daigle’s song You Say on repeat lately, and it has become a theme not just of The Secrets of Paper and Ink, but one in the story of my very life.
So while I may not have experienced everything my characters have—I’ve never suffered emotional abuse, or been ostracized by my family, or been orphaned and alone in a world that seems against me at every turn—I have learned alongside them. I set out to write a book that would draw readers closer to the true healer and hope giver, and I ended up being drawn closer myself.
And that, to me, is the true power of story.

Atoning For Ashes by Kaitlyn Covel

I have a nasty habit of not reading the descriptions of books I read. sometimes this leads to great disappointment, not so this time. I have to admit from the cover I expected to read a light Regency. However I was pleasantly surprised to find a Gothic novel. I enjoyed the interplay between Josie and Charles as they find out about each other after they are already married. The suspense throughout the book was quite intriguing. This is definitely a good book to curl up under the covers with on a cold and windy night! So grab a pot of tea and a few biscuits and settle in for a great read!

I was given a copy of this book by the author with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

From Amazon:

Josie Chadwick dreams of marrying for love in Cornwall, England, but with her father's debt threatening to destroy all she holds dear, her romantic options are dwindling. When her elder sister Delia is disowned, Josie finds herself heiress of Chadwick Park, torn between dreams and duty. After sacrificing her heart to atone for Delia's sin, Josie clings to the hope she will learn to love a distant husband, whom she fears is incapable of requiting her affection.

Charles Radcliffe's heart has been scarred and hardened by rejection. He fears hurting his new bride, but his fears of betrayal and rejection are stronger, making it impossible for him to trust her love―let alone the love of her God.

As Josie and Charles face their new life together, ominous events warn of dark family secrets that could shatter them both. More than a loveless marriage is at stake if they cannot stand as one. Will they learn to trust God and each other before it's too late?

Breach of Trust by Rachel Dylan

Atlanta Justice book 3 Breach of Trust starts with a murder! Mia Shaw is an up and coming lawyer in one of Atlanta's top law firms. When she goes to her friend's condo she finds his dead body. Although she is a corporate lawyer she vows to nail the murderer. Noah Ramirez is friends with the man Mia is convinced committed the murder. They will have to work together as danger rises.

I love Rachel Dylan's style of writing. She weaves a tale of death and espionage that entertains and draws one along, but does not get so gory as to ruin the story. She makes corporate law come alive. Her characters are real with fast paced dialogue that keeps one reading well past their bed time!
