A Viscount's Proposal by Melanie Dickerson

Leorah Langdon a free spirited young lady who has no desire to settle for a cold, love less marriage like her parents, is waiting for a man that she will love more than her horse, Buccaneer. Edward Withinghall wants a demure, pious wife who will be a good hostess and support his political career. Then fate intervenes, Leorah is thrown from a horse and then she and Withinghall are in a carriage accident. Because they are alone, unchaperoned for hours their reputations are at stake. Will she give up her freedom for an uncertain marriage?
Melanie Dickerson is one of my favorite authors. Her books never disappoint, but always prove to be quite entertaining. She weaves the gospel through her stories showing how G-d works in our lives.

From Amazon:
Leorah Langdon has no patience for Regency society’s shallow hypocrisy and unnecessary rules, especially for women. She’s determined to defy convention by marrying for grand passion instead of settling for a loveless union like her parents—or wedding a stuffy, pompous gentleman like Edward, the Viscount Withinghall. But when a chance meeting in the countryside leads to Leorah and Withinghall being discovered in his overturned carriage—alone and after dark—the ensuing gossip may force them together.

Withinghall has his reasons for clinging to propriety; his father perished in a duel with his mistress’s husband, and Edward must avoid scandal himself if he wants to become prime minister. He certainly has no time for a reckless hoyden like Miss Langdon. But soon the two discover that Withinghall’s coach “accident” was no such thing: the vehicle was sabotaged.

Can the culprit be brought to justice? Strong-willed Leorah and duty-driven Withinghall will have to work together if they have any hope of saving her reputation, his political career—and his life.

About the author from Amazon:
Historical romance author Melanie Dickerson earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and has taught special education in Georgia and Tennessee. She has also taught English in Germany and Ukraine. Dickerson won the 2012 Carol Award in young adult fiction and the 2010 National Readers’ Choice Award for best first book. Her novels The Healer’s Apprentice and The Merchant’s Daughter were both Christy Award finalists.

She lives with her husband and two daughters near Huntsville, Alabama.

I was given this novel by Netgalley for review purposes. All thoughts are my own.

Time Search by Danele Rotharmel

Danele Rotharmel Oh, Kristine! When I saw your post, I nearly DIED laughing!! I'm so glad that you are enjoying "Time Search!" I had so much fun creating Alex's list of dares, and I had just as much fun having Angelina complete those dares in Europe! I'm so glad that you like my book! As Angelina’s turn arrived to kiss the stone, the Irish spotter said, “Who’s next now, pe’ople? Keep it roll’ing.”

Feeling her knees quaking, Angelina stepped forward.

Her manager, Karl Fagan, grinned. “Are you sure you want to do this?”

Sitting down, Angelina grimaced. “I’m sure I don’t want to do it, but neither do I want to give Alex something to tease me about. I’m going to finish his list—especially since I managed to get through the Paris tasks. But I’ll tell you one thing, I’m going to make my rascally brother pay for this when I get home.”

“Com’ on now, luv,” the spotter said. “Lay down.”

With dive-bombing butterflies invading her stomach, Angelina wiggled herself over the gap.

“Grab the bars,” the spotter instructed, clutching her waist. “Watch yer ’ead.”

Angelina grabbed the two parallel bars embedded in the stonework and let herself tilt slowly upside down and backward off the castle.

“Lower yer ’ead. Lower,” the spotter coaxed. “Jus’ a bit lower.”

Lowering herself further, Angelina saw a dizzying expanse of ground far below.

“Tha’s it,” the spotter said. “Kiss it now.”

Feeling lightheaded, she swung up and pressed her lips to the blarney stone. A giggle rose in her throat as Karl snapped her picture. All she had to do now was find a four-leaf clover and dance with a leprechaun.

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen

Julie Klassen has done it again. She has created an entire village in the 1820 English countryside. The Bell a Royal Mail coaching inn is the heart of the village. A place to work, grab a quick meal or find romance, The Bell has belonged to the Bell family for over 100 years. Jane Fairmont is a member of the gentry, used to the finer things in life. She shocks everyone by marrying John Bell, an innkeeper. Upon his death, he wills the Bell to her in a time when women don't own anything. I loved the way Jane goes from being a clueless flower, to learn her own worth and strength. All of the characters are delightful and I wasn't sure who to root for. I can't wait for the next installment in The Tales From Ivy Hill saga.

From Amazon:
First Series from Bestselling Author Julie Klassen!

The lifeblood of the Wiltshire village of Ivy Hill is its coaching inn, The Bell. But when the innkeeper dies suddenly, his genteel wife, Jane Bell, becomes the reluctant owner. Jane has no notion of how to run a business. However, with the town's livelihood at stake and a large loan due, she must find a way to bring new life to the inn.

Despite their strained relationship, Jane turns to her resentful mother-in-law, Thora, for help. Formerly mistress of The Bell, Thora is struggling to find her place in the world. As she and Jane work together, they form a measure of trust, and Thora's wounded heart begins to heal. When she encounters two men from her past, she sees them--and her future--in a different light.

With pressure mounting from the bank, Jane employs innovative methods to turn the inn around, and puzzles over the intentions of several men who seem to have a vested interest in the place. Will her efforts be enough to save The Bell? And will Thora embrace the possibility of a second chance at love?

About the author from Amazon:
Julie Klassen loves all things Jane--Jane Eyre and Jane Austen. She worked in publishing for sixteen years and now writes full time. Three of her novels have won the Christy Award for Historical Romance. Her book, The Silent Governess, was also a finalist in the Minnesota Book Awards, ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year Awards, and Romance Writers of America's RITA Awards. Julie is a graduate of the University of Illinois. She and her husband have two sons and live near St. Paul, Minnesota. Visit www.julieklassen.com for more information.

An Uncommon Courtship by Kristi Ann Hunter

I have been looking forward to reading Trent's story, and it was well worth waiting for. Due to the rules of the times, Trent and Adelaide are required to marry quickly. They are strangers who are now married. I loved the way Kristi wove the customs of the time with a story that grabs hold and carried one along. The visits with Trent's family, the Hawthornes was an added bonus. Kristi is definitely one of the top Regency writers today.

From Amazon:
Life for Lady Adelaide Bell was easier if she hid in her older sister's shadow--which worked until her sister got married. Even with the pressure of her socially ambitious mother, the last thing she expected was a marriage of convenience to save her previously spotless reputation.

Lord Trent Hawthorne couldn't be happier that he is not the duke in the family. He's free to manage his small estate and take his time discovering the life he wants to lead, which includes grand plans of wooing and falling in love with the woman of his choice. When he finds himself honor bound to marry a woman he doesn't know, his dream of a marriage like his parents' seems lost forever.

Already starting their marriage on shaky ground, can Adelaide and Trent's relationship survive the pressures of London society?

About the author:

Kristi Ann Hunter graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in computer science but always knew she wanted to write. Kristi is an RWA Golden Heart contest winner, an ACFW Genesis contest winner, and a Georgia Romance Writers Maggie Award for Excellence winner. She lives with her husband and three children in Georgia.

The Mark of the King by Jocelyn Green

I am still awaiting my copy, but I wanted to get this out there for release day, January 3rd! My review will come later! :)

From Jocelyn Green's blog:

The Mark of the King

"The Mark of the King grabbed me from the first scene and wouldn't let me go! The setting is vibrant, unique, and full of fascinating true details about the early French settlement in New Orleans. With arranged marriages, forced immigration, and struggles against starvation, the elements, and warring natives, the story is riveting. A must-read!"
~Jody Hedlund, Christy Award-winning author
"A page-turner of a tale set against France’s early struggles to colonize Louisiana, The Mark of the King bears all the marks of the best historical fiction—rich attention to detail, settings historically accurate and lushly depicted, a complex and layered plot, diverse cultures vividly portrayed, and the ever-present sense of the larger forces of time and place shaping the lives and destinies of characters I came to care about. The unjustly exiled Julianne is a woman to admire and cheer, the soldier Marc-Paul a man of strength and devotion. Lovers of historical fiction will be transported by this beautifully written novel of the early 18th century frontier."
~Lori Benton, award-winning author of The Wood’s Edge and A Flight of Arrows
After being imprisoned and branded for the death of her client, twenty-five-year-old midwife Julianne Chevalier trades her life sentence for exile to the fledgling 1720s French colony of Louisiana, where she hopes to be reunited with her brother, serving there as a soldier. To make the journey, though, women must be married, and Julianne is forced to wed a fellow convict.
When they arrive in New Orleans, there is no news of Benjamin, Julianne's brother, and searching for answers proves dangerous. What is behind the mystery, and does military officer Marc-Paul Girard know more than he is letting on?
With her dreams of a new life shattered, Julianne must find her way in this dangerous, rugged land, despite never being able to escape the king's mark on her shoulder that brands her a criminal beyond redemption.

about Jocelyn Green:

Award-winning author Jocelyn Green inspires faith and courage in her readers through both fiction and nonfiction. A former military wife herself, she offers encouragement and hope to military wives worldwide through her Faith Deployed ministry. Her novels, inspired by real heroines on America’s home front, are marked by their historical integrity and gritty inspiration. Jocelyn graduated from Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, with a B.A. in English, concentration in writing. She is an active member of the Christian Authors Network, Advanced Writers and Speakers Association, American Christian Fiction Writers, and the Military Writers Society of America. She loves Mexican food, Broadway musicals, Toblerone chocolate bars, the color red, and reading on her patio. Jocelyn lives with her husband Rob and two small children in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Connect with her on Facebook(link is external). [Looking for the Media Kit? It's right here.] Okay, that was my official bio. Now, here's a little more. . .
  • If it weren't for God's presence in my life, I would not be able to inspire faith and courage in others. He is my inspiration, my strength, my joy.
  • My favorite verse is Isaiah 26:3. And also Psalm 30:5. Oh wait, Psalm 34:18 is another great one . . . I'll stop now.
  • I'm an ordinary mom. I make lunches, wipe noses, play Chutes & Ladders, read bedtime stories, dispense band-aids, and give lots of hugs and kisses to my kids while they'll still let me.
  • I fall behind in my household chores from time to time, especially when on deadline. I keep up with laundry pretty well, but my mop doesn't see any action, for instance, while I write a book.
  • We love traditions in this house. Among our favorites: having pizza and Family Movie Night on Fridays, watching Rick Steves on Saturday mornings, spaghetti dinner (made by my husband) on Sundays.
  • I do my best writing wearing pants with elastic waistbands. I call these "writing pants." My favorite pair is summer pajama bottoms from L.L. Bean.
  • I'm an introvert but enjoy public speaking. Weird, right?
  • I'm really big on list-making. I think it's hereditary, because my 6-year-old seems to have inherited the gene as well. Evidence at right.
  • I tend to either cook 30 meals in a day or go for three months without cooking more than twice a week (and therefore using the 30 meals I had prepared ahead of time). It works out nicely. Although sometimes I wish I was one of those people who cooked and baked super good stuff for fun.
  •  I'm not very crafty. I'll just say it. I really admire those who are, though.
Thanks so much for stopping by. This feels a little weird talking so much about myself, but that's what this page is all about. I'd much rather connect with you in a way that's not so one-sided, though, so please, connect with me through my blog, the contact page, or my Facebook(link is external)page. I'd love to hear from you. :)
