These are the books that launched the Baxter family series and are now portrayed in the Baxters a tv show on Prime. I read these books as they were released in the early 2000s. After watching the Baxters I decided to reread these books. They are even better than I remembered. I highly recommend these books if you want a gritty, family series that covers real life situations. I among many others love the Baxter family and enjoyed this trip back to the beginning.

Recently I had the honor of reading an ARC copy of Pepper Basham's Some Like It Scot. I loved the way Pepper created beautiful word pictures of a country I would love to visit someday. The book takes place on a small Scottish Isle as Katie Campbell, a travel writer, shares her Misadventures with her blog followers. She is taken in by a wonderful group of people who live on the island. Graeme MacKerrow has lived there all his life and doesn't trust outsiders, especially red headed women who like to travel. 

I found the story to be delightful and the scenery magnificent. I adore the way Pepper weaves faith throughout the story as easy as breathing. I highly recommend Some Like It Scot. The only downside is you will have to wait until April 0f 2025 to enjoy it.

Gabrielle Meyer's Timeless books are on my all time favorite list. As every book is announced I automatically pre order it. This time I was fortunate enough to score an Advance Reader Copy through NetGalley! Across The Ages is fantastic. I loved Caroline in both of her lives and really struggled with which life I thought she should choose! I loved the fact that Caroline was a woman of faith in both timelines, but still struggled.  She was very real. Caroline had two swoon-worthy guys to choose from, which complicated which life she wanted. My only problem with the story is that it is over...

So pre order Across The Ages and be prepared to take PTO, hire a babysitter, meal prep, you know just  set aside time to read it as you won't want to put it down!

Target Acquired by Lynette Eason

I really enjoyed Target Acquired from the first page to the last. I was rooting for Kenzie and Cole from the beginning. Both were very likeable characters who struggled with how much of themselves they were willing to risk. I liked the fact that Kenzie never backed away from a challenge and being the only woman on a SWAT team was not easy. It never ceases to amaze me that Lynette Eason can continually get better with each tale she tells!

So grab a large sweet tea and curl up under a tree for a fabulous book!

Power City by John Galt Robinson

 

I recently discovered John Galt Robinson's books. Power City is the second book about Christy and Joe. I was hoping it would be as good as Forces Of Redemption, and it was. I really enjoyed the setting of Niagara Falls as I have been there several times. The story kept me on the edge of my sea! I love Christy, Joe, and all of their friends and family. I am looking forward to reading the next book Lost Angels. Robinson is rapidly becoming a must read author for me.

Forces Of Redemption by John Galt Robinson

 

Forces of Redemption is the first book I have read by John Galt Robinson. I enjoyed reading this book for the most part, however some scenes were not for the faint of heart. I expected it would be a tough at times read as the subject matter is human trafficking and drug cartels. The descriptions throughout were quite vivid. I loved the characters, especially Christy and Joe.  The two of them have some very deep conversations on faith that are quite intriguing. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading the next installment Power City!

I grew up on Grand Island, New York, just a few miles upstream from the majestic Niagara Falls. My love of reading was handed down from my father who named me after the hero of Ayn Rand’s Epic, Atlas Shrugged. Growing up, I enjoyed sailing with my family. Of The Past And Eternity by Carole Lehr Johnson

 

Of The Past And Eternity is the first book I have read by Carole Lehr Johnson. I enjoyed the plot very much. The only reason I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that I couldn't connect with the characters. I loved the settings and the descriptions of life in Regency England. I will definitely read more by this author.

A Season Of Harvest (Leah's Garden book 4) by Lauraine Snelling

 

I always enjoy visiting with Lauraine Snelling's characters. Her books are enjoyable and are an excellent way to escape everyday life for a while. Larkspur and her sisters have carved out a good life in the old west and are now settling down to raise families. I highly recommend the Leah's Garden series of books. 

My advice is to make a pitcher of tea and settle into your favorite reading nook for a great book.

About the author:

From a young age, I cultivated a profound love for reading and writing. I would spend hours at the library, devouring every book on a single shelf before moving on to the next. It seems I have a longing that can’t be satisfied by reality. Immersing myself in literature allows me to escape into worlds where I could become someone graceful, witty, and popular.

Currently, I work for a small biotech company and have published 120+ scientific books and papers. As a latecomer to the world of creative writing, I’ve released several books under different pen names. R. F. Whong is the pen name used for publishing fiction titles, whereas Ruth Wuwong is the chosen name for non-fiction books.

I’m married to my wonderful husband, a retired pastor who encourages me to pursue my dreams. We served together at three different churches from 1987 to 2020. Our adult son works in a nearby city.
