Convincing The Cowgirl by Jody Hedlund

I love all of Jody Hedlund's books and I believe her to be a gifted writer. However, Convincing The Cowgirl is among my least favorites of hers. Usually marriage of convenience books are one of the best tropes. Unfortunately Convincing the Cowgirl is a bit low on plot. Most of the book is focused on the physical attraction between Patience Courtney and Spencer Wolcott. This book had a promising beginning and I did enjoy the ending, I just wish there had been more substance to the story.

I will continue to read Ms. Hedlund's books as everyone can have an off book. As always I look forward to reading her next creation.

I was given a copy of this book with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

From Amazon:

When unexpected visitors arrive at the Courtney Boardinghouse and claim the place belongs to them, Patience Courtney finds herself homeless and penniless. Having failed at so many things already in life, Patience is determined to find a way to survive and thrive.

When wealthy rancher, Spencer Wolcott, proposes a marriage of convenience, Patience accepts the arrangement. In exchange for a new home, she agrees to become the mother to Spencer’s precocious little girl so that he can manage his prosperous ranch.

As Patience falls in love with her new family, she learns Spencer has no intention of giving his heart away to any woman. With growing threats to the ranch, Spencer must decide what is truly important and whether he’ll allow himself to love again before it’s too late.

  • Marriage of convenience
  • Single father
  • Grieving widower
  • Homeless/penniless bride
  • Precocious child
  • Opposites attract

“This one’s worth rounding up.” —Booklist, on Falling for the Cowgirl

*All of the books in the Colorado Cowgirls series are sweet, closed-door romances with plenty of sizzle. The inspirational themes are light, and the romance is the main focus of the books.

The Legacy Of Longdale Manor by Carrie Turansky

They say don't judge a book by it's cover. In the case of The Legacy of Longdale Manor although the cover is beautiful, it doesn't hold a candle to the story. Two women a 100 years apart both come to the Lake District to find answers, forgiveness, and perhaps romance. I loved the way Carrie Turansky wove Gwen and Charlotte's stories together. Longdale Manor provided a beautiful setting that links the two women. I also enjoyed he way the women rediscovered their faith.

Hopefully you will have a long weekend to curl up with a cup of tea and this book. I can't think of a better way to spend your time.

I was given a copy of this book with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

From Amazon:

Two women--a century apart--embark on a journey to healing, faith, forgiveness, and romance.

In 2012, art historian Gwen Morris travels to England's Lake District to appraise the paintings and antiques of an old family friend, hoping to prove herself to her prestigious grandfather. While at Longdale Manor, she meets David Bradford--the owner's handsome grandson--who is desperate to save the crumbling estate by turning it into a luxury hotel. When Gwen stumbles upon a one-hundred-year-old journal and an intricately carved shepherd's staff similar to one in a photo of her parents, she's left searching for answers.

In 1912, after her father's death, Charlotte Harper uncovers a painful family secret she can only confess to her journal. She and her family travel to the Lake District to stay on a sheep farm, hoping eventually to find a home with Charlotte's grandfather at Longdale Manor, but old wounds and bitter regrets make it a difficult challenge. As Charlotte grows closer to shepherd Ian Storey and rebuilds her shattered faith, she must decide whether she will ever trust in love again.

Countdown is book four in Lynette Eason's Extreme Measures series. Each book focuses on a  woman who spent time in juvie growing up. All four are successful, productive members of society, but they all have pasts that come calling.

Ms. Eason is a master at blending suspense and romance, I loved the way Raina and Vincent interacted with each other. The dialogue was witty and helped the plot along. I loved the way she wove faith throughout the story. I highly recommend this book (and series) to all who love Dee Henderson, Dani Pettrey and DiAnn Mills style of writing.
