Mr. Churchill's Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal

I tried to like Mr. Churchill's Secretary, but after reading more than half of the book , I gave up. The characters did not endear themselves to me. The plot was slow and not to my taste. I also could not get past the profanity. Although the blurb on the back was enticing , this book did not live up to it's potential.

If I Run by Terri Blackstock

This is the first book I have read by Terri Blackstock, but it won't be the last. I found If I Run to be fast paced and thoroughly engaging. With a  well-developed plot and characters that make the reader sit on the edge of their seat, you won't go wrong reading If I Run. Possible spoiler: While the story has a natural conclusion, it is more like the end of part one. So if you don't like waiting for the rest of the story, wait until March 21, 2017, for If I'm Found!
I was given this book by The Fiction Guild for review purposes, but all thoughts are my own.

Sarah's Key by Tatiana De Rosnay

Julia Jarmond, a middle-aged American journalist living in Paris lives between two worlds. Although she hs been in Paris for 25 years nd married to a Frenchman for 17 years, she is still called the American by her in-laws. She and her husband are moving into an apartment owned by his family. At the same time, she is assigned to write a story about one of Paris' most shameful events, the Vel'd'Hiv, a rounding up of the Jews by Parisian police in 1942. Her research starts to bring to light events that her husband and his family want forgotten.
Sarah's Key is a duel-timeline story covering Sarah's life in WW2 Paris and Julia's life in modern day Paris. The story is awesome covering an event I had never heard of. It is a must read. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of five was profanity and a few adult themes. Other than those items, I loved the book.

The Silent Songbird by Melanie Dickerson

In a new Fairytale by Melanie Dickerson, Evangeline has to decide whether it is better to live in luxury as the King's ward and obey his order to marry against her will or to flee and live freely as a peasant. Westly le Wyse is good , honorable, and noble, she hopes to be his servant. In a realistic re-telling of the Little Mermaid, the author  creates a delightful tale. I love the characters and the little details are wonderful. Melanie paints pictures with her words that fill one with delight. I must say it is always a good day when I have a new Melanie Dickerson book in my hands.

The Domino Effect by Davis Bunn

Wow! My only problem with The Domino Effect is that it is finished. I have not been so engaged with a book in a long time. I fully expected to turn on FOX News and see the events from Mr. Bunn's book being discussed as breaking news. This is a book that will make your heart race. I would certainly recommend not starting this book if you have any plans, you won't want to put the book down. I was hesitant to pick the Domino Effect up because it deals with the banking industry and I did not think that it was possible to write a thriller on banks. I enjoyed every minute of The Domino Effect and I hope Mr. Bunn writes more books with Esther and Craig. While their romance was subdued it did add to the story.

Disillusioned by Christy Barritt

Reading Disillusioned by Christy Barritt? Then get ready for one heck of a ride. This book is full of plot twists and seat of your pants adventure. I was never quite sure who the good guys were. If you are into political thrillers, this book is for you. The characters are appealing and well developed and the plot moves swiftly . I would have to add  with the way events are in today's world, this story could have played out in real life. This is the first book I have read by Ms. Barritt, but it will certainly not be the last.

Saving The Marquise's Granddaughter by Carrie Fancett Pagels

I enjoyed reading Carrie Pagel's Saving The Marquise's Grandaughter. Ms. Pagel obviously did her homework and her love of History is quite evident throughout the book. I would  like to know a little more about the Hugonaut Faith but otherwise, I was quite pleased with the story. The characters had depth to them and the scenes were described in vivid terms. I would love to see a sequel that details what happened after this book ends. I feel there is more to the story!
